Disinfecting Common Surface

How to Clean Wood Floors

How to clean wood floors tends to depend on the type of finish. In this article, we’ll show you how you can clean polished or non-porous wood flooring.

Hard wood surface

There are two types of floors; non-porous floors are those that are sealed, whereas porous floors will allow moisture to soak into the surface. This means that some cleaners can seep into the floor and cause damage to your wood, so it’s always crucial to check what cleaner can go on what type of wood floor.

Cleaning wood floors

You should clean your floors every week or so in order to get rid of the dust, allergens and germs that can gather there1.

If you’re looking to give it your once-weekly clean, simply follow these steps below:

  1. To clean and deodorize, use Lysol® Clean & Fresh Multi-Surface Cleaner at full-strength or dilute ¼ cup (2 fl. oz.) per gallon of warm water in a bucket.
We recommend using at full strength to clean soap scum and greasy soils or diluted in a bucket of water for using on the full surface area of your floor. If using at full strength, always remember to rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  2. Place your mop in the bucket and wring it out before applying to your wood floor until thoroughly wet.
The best way to do this is to work your way from one end to the other, moving backwards so that you aren’t standing on spots that you’ve just mopped.
  3. Wipe away immediately or to sanitize, leave for one minute before wiping away with a clean mop.

How to disinfect wood floors

To disinfect your floor, use Lysol® Clean & Fresh Multi-Surface Cleaner at full-strength (or dilute 1 oz to 5 oz of warm water in a bucket) and be sure to pre-clean the surface. Simply follow the steps above but leave the Lysol® Clean & Fresh Multi-Surface Cleaner to sit on your floor for 6 minutes to really work it’s magic on the surface before wiping away with a clean mop.
